The Life of David 1: David's Calling

Print
Category: Audio Sermons
Created on 14 April 2016

The most notable king of Israel, an ancestor of Christ, and the writer of a majority of the Psalms, David is one of the most monumental characters in scripture. In this series, we learn some of the key events of David's life, which serve as an encouragement and example to believers everywhere.

In this first message, our study focuses on God's selection of David as king over Israel, in replacement of King Saul. A constant theme of all the Bible is well developed in the narrative: God looks on the heart and not on the outward appearance. The providence of God is also demonstrated, as God places David in a position that would further enable his rise to the throne.

Building Your House On A Rock

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as the scribes." - Matthew 7:24-29

Beware of False Prophets

Print
Category: Audio Sermons
Created on 17 March 2016

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither [can] a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." - Matthew 7:15-23

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. There is a great need in our day for teaching on the roles of both husband and wife in the Christian home. Both have been given a very specific role by God. The Husband, our subject in this sermon, is to be a loving leader, treating and loving His wife as Christ does the Church. He isn't to be a cruel despot, but a man of love, liberty, and leadership, just like Jesus is to us!

Hymnsinging was an integral part of the early church as an act of worship with a twofold purpose: 1) To praise God, and 2) To fill worshipers with the Spirit. Are you downcast? "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10

Prior to leaving the concept of the new birth, we look at the fact that inasmuch as this act is one of spiritual resurrection and implantation of Christ's nature, it is also one of divine creation.

What is this verse teaching? It is proposing a dead man must somehow believe in Jesus to become born again? Or rather, is it teaching that Christ and His nature must be given to the dead sinner for him to come alive? Based on what Paul has already expressed to us in this chapter, the latter must certainly be true.
