Suffering With Christ

While Jesus’ life was one of difficulty, His final week leading up to the crucifixion was one of extreme and intense suffering. He would be betrayed, arrested, forsaken, lied about, tried, beaten, scourged, and then crucified. And yet despite knowing all of this, He rode into Jerusalem for the joy set before Him.

As we continue our series on the reality of afflictions, we look to the sufferings of Christ, and find examples for us in our own suffering.

The Nonnegotiable Truth of the Resurrection

Last week’s edition of Words of Grace focused on what a church considers nonnegotiable, as far as theological concepts are concerned. We used what we commonly referred to as the Articles of Faith to demonstrate this. In short, there are just some concepts that we ought to affirm. Things that  we believe, that we will not entertain any objection to. Today, we consider one of the most crucial nonnegotiable concepts which exists: The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Face Set Like A Flint

“For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” Isaiah 50:7

Face Set as a Flint

Did Jesus know how much He would suffer before and during the cross? With absolute scriptural certainty, we can say yes! As Jesus rode into Jerusalem the week of His crucifixion, He knew all that He would suffer for the sins of His people. And yet He went, He drank of the bitter cup, He finished the work.
