In our last broadcast, we ended by leaving poor Jonah in the belly of a great fish, after having been cast overboard for bringing Divine judgment upon himself and the crew of the ship he was on. Today, we return to him as he is in the depths of the sea, as he prays to God for forgiveness and is released from this Hellish prison.

Jonah is an interesting book. In this short writing, we learn of God’s judgment for sin but also His mercy and kindness when nations repent. One proverbial phrase that scripture uses to warn against allowing sin to take root in our lives is “a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” This warning is given with reference to sinful living and also false doctrine. In this radio program, we explore some of the scriptural uses of leaven as a metaphor for sin or error.
