Worship: Types and Motivations | Compelled to Worship, Part 2

In last week’s Words of Grace, we began considering the question: what compels us to worship God? After defining worship from Scripture, we now turn to the ways it is expressed and the motivations behind it.

In this message, Pastor Ben Winslett looks at the types of worship—spontaneous praise, private devotion, and corporate gathering—and then asks what truly drives us to worship. From the finished work of Christ that makes worship acceptable, to the changed heart that longs for God, to life’s providences and the encouragement of others, we see how worship is both enabled and compelled by the grace of God.

Join us as we continue this study on what it means to worship in spirit and in truth. Continue reading “Worship: Types and Motivations | Compelled to Worship, Part 2”

Defining Worship | Compelled to Worship, Part 1

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself what truly compels us to worship God? In this edition of Words of Grace, Pastor Ben Winslett begins a two-part message on the subject of worship.

Drawing from both Old and New Testaments, we explore the rich meaning of worship—bowing before the Lord, serving Him, and revering His name. Scripture shows us that worship is never random or empty ritual, but a heartfelt response to encounters with the living God.

Join us as we look at the biblical foundation of worship and consider what it means to approach God in humility, reverence, and service.

Those who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

In this episode of Words of Grace, Ben Winslett explores Matthew 5:6, in which Jesus said “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” This longing for righteousness is a sign of spiritual life, showing that a person has been born again. Just as physical hunger indicates life, spiritual hunger reveals the presence of the new nature given by God. And, this craving is ONLY satisfied through the gospel, prayer, and worship.

What’s Your Emphasis?

When your congregation meets, what is your emphasis? That could be a proverbial “can of worms.” In today’s broadcast, Pastor Winslett considers certain American religious phenomenon such as the “seeker sensitive” mentality in light of the Commission of Christ. In short, putting the emphasis on the “feel” of worship or framing worship in a way that targets the unchurched actually violates the Great Commission, which instructs ministers to go, preach, baptize, and teach.
