Fishers of Men

When Jesus first called His disciples into the gospel ministry, he met them not in a religious house, but in their place of employment as they were fishing in the Sea of Galilee. In this episode of Words of Grace, we turn to Luke chapter 5 and Jesus’ instruction to Peter to cast his net one more time, setting up a miracle that would forever impact the direction of Peter’s life. While indeed a miracle, this interaction served as a metaphor for the work these men would engage in for the rest of their days: Fishing for men.

The Importance of Making Disciples

In today’s edition of Words of Grace, Pastor Benjamin Winslett turns our attention to the Great Commission — the lasting instruction Jesus gave His disciples before ascending into heaven. Each gospel record closes with a similar theme: the crucifixion, the resurrection, the commission, and the ascension.

Though salvation is entirely the Lord’s work, it is through the preaching of the gospel that disciples are made from among those whom God has quickened. Pastor Winslett explores the unique emphases in each Gospel account, the apostolic authority of this commission, and the continuing responsibility of the church to support the ministry through prayer, service, and encouragement.

Join us as we reflect on this sacred charge and the pattern seen throughout the book of Acts, where the Lord added daily to the church through faithful gospel labor.
