An Interrupted Funeral Procession

On today’s episode of Words of Grace, Pastor Winslett takes us to a small Galilean town called Nain in Gospel of Luke chapter 7, where a funeral procession meets the Prince of Life.

A widow, already burdened by the loss of her husband, now follows the bier of her only son. In any  culture, this tragic and heartbreaking. But in that day, this was devastation; her support, her security, her future provision were gone in a moment. But as this procession of death moves forward, it is suddenly interrupted by the Lord Jesus Christ.

In this message, we consider the compassion of Christ, the authority of Christ over death itself, and the hope that only He can give. When Jesus says, “Weep not,” it is not a dismissal of sorrow, but a declaration of power. There is no situation too far gone for Him to overturn.

Thanksgiving to God

In this episode of Words of Grace, Pastor Ben Winslett examines the subject of thanksgiving as presented in Scripture. From the voluntary offerings of Leviticus to Paul’s New Testament exhortations, and finally the example of the woman in Luke 7, we consider what true gratitude toward God looks like. This message invites listeners to reflect on their own thankfulness and the blessings found in Christ.

An Example of Great Faith

In this week’s message, we turn to Luke 7 and the remarkable account of a Roman Centurion whose faith caused Jesus Himself to marvel. While the Jewish elders praised the man’s accomplishments and argued for his worthiness, the Centurion felt deeply unworthy—yet fully confident in Christ’s authority. His request was simple: “Just speak the word, and my servant shall be healed.”

In this episode, Pastor Benjamin Winslett explores the contrast between human perceptions of worthiness and the humility that marks true faith. We also consider the Centurion’s unique understanding of Jesus’ power to act “from a distance,” without any physical presence required.

Join us as we study this powerful example of great faith and learn what it teaches us about approaching Christ with humility, dependence, and trust.
